West Virginia gets past Liberty, 33-20
The West Virginia Mountaineers began the post-Path White era with a 33-20 win over Liberty that did not come as easy as many would have hoped.
It’s only the first game and they did get a victory, so it’s hardly time to panic. However, it was evident that this will be a much different West Virginia team than the one we have become accustomed to seeing.
The one positive is that quarterback Jarrett Brown, who has a little bit of White in him, had a solid first game and seems up to the challenge of replacing the former WVU star signal caller. Brown threw for 243 yards and did not throw an interception, which is a good sign for a young quarterback. He also had nine carries for 69 yards and a touchdown, which probably reminded a lot of folks of White.
Running back Noel Devine will have to carry this team, at least early in the season, and he finished with 112 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
